Greenies,

I know it’s hard to fathom with blustery winds and the crisp chill in the air, but it really is time to start thinking about the garden!

The second annual spring SEED SWAP is right around the corner and we’re so excited to be hosting this fun event again on Saturday, February 25 from noon to 3. We’re changing locations to accommodate a larger crowd than last time (it was a wee bit cozy last year) but it will still be very conveniently located in south city. In fact, if you can find the Botanical Gardens, you’re golden. We’ll be in basement of The Word at Shaw, 4265 Shaw Blvd, St Louis, Missouri 63110. The nice folks over there have kindly offered us their space to use for the swap. Yay for nice people!

Like last year, we’ll be doing some peer-to-peer learning and socializing before the swap. Some wonderful friends of Drop. Swap. Grow. have offered to talk to our group about the canning process, food preservation, and basic bread making. We’ll have about a half an hour or so of learning while we do our magic in the background and get everything set up for the swap.

New for the swap this year: TOOL SWAP! Do you have 4 pairs of shears, but no hand shovel? 3 hand shovels but no shears? Bring all the extras you’ve got and we’ll do a little swaparooni along with the seed swap. Tools can be various sizes but nothing bigger than a standard shovel and no heavy-duty machinery, ok? All the leftovers will be donated to local community gardens.

Sponsor love! This year’s swap is getting some extra special love from the folks at Slow Food. They have generously provided a grant to purchase seeds and some gardening essentials for our raffle baskets and will be doing a brief presentation to teach us more about what it means to be a part of the slow food movement. We’re so excited to have them join us, we know you’ll love them, too.

We’ve opted to go a little lower-tech this year to save time and streamline the process. You will not need to register your seeds this year. You will only need to register for the event itself. I’ll be posting registration information very soon. Registration will officially open on 2/1 and will close on 2/20.

That’s it for now, folks. Stay tuned.

If you’re interested in attending any event, please request to join the group; it’s not crazy active so don’t worry that your inbox will be flooded. The Yahoo group is really just for alerts to activities.
